Evan Turner’s Prospect Showcase, formerly known as Daniel Poneman’s SwagAir Showcase, was conceived in 2009 as a way to help young men from Chicago earn scholarships to play college basketball. In the years since, the annual event has helped over 600 young men find pathways to Junior Colleges and four-year schools at the DI, DII, DIII and NAIA levels. What began as a small event to help local players gain exposure has become the premier event of its kind. In past years we’ve seen as many as 100 college coaches attend the one day showcase. This year, with the support of Brandon Goble and JucoAdvocate.com, we expect to welcome over 150 college coaches to Quest Multisport to scout and recruit the 250 high school seniors and 150 Junior College sophomores participating in our showcase.
Many NBA players fund AAU teams and camps in their hometowns, but Evan Turner always had a desire to do more for the kids of Chicago. In 2015, he lent his experience and resources to help grow an event that gives kids a chance not only to play ball for a day, but the opportunity to attend college for free and help build a successful life. Evan makes sure that all 400 players play free of charge, get a jersey to take home courtesy of Li-Ning, receive lunch at the showcase, and get an experience they can cherish forever.
Being recruited to play Division I basketball is not the only way to create a better life and future for yourself and your family through the game that we love. We’ve seen showcase alumni go on to earn two and four-year degrees from prestigious colleges and universities all over the world, many returning to Chicago after graduation to help rebuild the communities that raised them. Our players have become influential coaches, trainers, teachers, mentors, and community activists after finishing their college basketball careers. We are just as proud of them as we are of our alums in the NBA and professional basketball leagues around the world.
Our event is truly one-of-a-kind, and wouldn’t be possible without Evan’s generosity, Daniel’s vision, the hard work and commitment of our original SwagAir team, and the continued support of the Chicago basketball community.
Hope to see you on April 7th and 8th. Thanks for helping make this our best event yet.
